Eyes to See

“Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.” Luke 10:23-24

There are many unexplainable things that happen in this world. When my son and nephew were too young to speak well, but could understand already, we found out that they both could point out from among the many, many pictures on their lolo’s mirror, who Jing was. They had never seen Jing, the first husband of my sister Peggy, on this earth, because he had died a couple of years before they were born. One day, while being held, standing in front of this big mirror with several pictures, someone asked them to point to their grandparents, aunties and uncles, etc., and they never missed. On a whim, they were asked to point to the picture of Jing, and we were all amazed that they both pointed unerringly to the right picture! 

In the same passage from Luke 10, Jesus claims, “...although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned You have revealed them to the childlike.” Two days ago, a very good man died. He had a missionary spirit, consistently helping the poor, even those who lived far away in the mountains. He loved the people God loved. When he passed away, his young grandchild said that Mama Mary fetched him. What a consolation to the family he left behind! 

I believe there are many things that happen in the spiritual realm that only the humble of heart, the lowly, the childlike, see. If we continue to trust in God, to pray, and read His word this advent, we will be able to see with the eyes of faith what God wants us to see. This world is passing away before our very eyes. Let us choose to see the eternal.
