God’s Ways

“They came bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. Unable to get near Jesus because of the crowd, they opened up the roof above him.” Mark 2:3-4

In the story of the paralyzed man being carried by his friends to Jesus, I usually imagine myself to be the paralytic in need of Jesus. I am so blessed in that so many care enough to “carry” me to Jesus!  Indeed, we are all paralyzed in some way, by our circumstances, by our sins, by our past, by our health, sometimes even by the way we think. But we also need to be one of the friends who carried the paralytic, the sick, the discouraged, the lonely, the anxious, to Jesus. No matter our weaknesses, failures, or mistakes in the past, we can always make a difference in other people’s lives.

I watched the Open Door Online’s Inspirational meeting yesterday. A man named Gabby Medina shared about his journey of getting to know the Lord. He has a speech impediment and always stutters. Because of this he did not think he would get far in life, thinking his choices were limited. In college, studying in UP Fine Arts, he was invited to Christ’s Youth in Action (CYA). He got to know the Lord and wanted to invite more people to experience the same wonderful relationship he had with God.

He prayed hard that God would give him the strength despite his limitations to invite just one person to CYA. In his senior year, in December 1992, Gabby invited his drinking buddy, a frat man, to a CYA retreat. Surprisingly his buddy attended, even though it was actually to avoid the Citizen’s Military Training, and meet girls! Eventually his friend gave his life to God, and attended the many events of CYA. One day his drinking buddy invited Gabby to a big evangelistic event in Araneta Coliseum. There were so many people on fire for the Lord! It was awesome, but even more awesome, was when his buddy went up on stage before thousands of people. He was now a preacher! Imagine? Gabby made an effort to make a difference in Bobby Quitain’s life, and now Bobby makes a difference in so many people’s lives! He is a preacher, an author of many inspirational books, and God is using him in so many ways to reach lawyers, doctors, top managers, etc.

And Gabby, he is now a businessman, and has authored four books. God’s ways are wonderful to behold. Let us open our lives to God’s work, step by step. We never know where He will bring us.
