Be Strong and Courageous

The Lord said to Moses, “Send men to reconnoiter the land of Canaan, which I am giving the children of Israel…” Numbers 13:1

How blessed the Israelites were during the time of Moses, that God would speak to Moses as a friend would speak, clearly, and what was more, generously! God gave instructions of how they were to reconnoiter to see the land God was going to give them, a land so rich it was flowing with milk and honey. 

But instead of obeying the Lord, most of the men, except for Caleb, balked in fear and proclaimed to the others that they could not take over from the Anakim. 

“We cannot attack these people; they are too strong for us. The land that we explored is a country that consumes its inhabitants. And all the people we saw there are huge, veritable giants; we felt like mere grasshoppers, and so we must have seemed to them.”

How many times have we succumbed to our fears and insecurities? Our problems can sometimes feel insurmountable! But we need to see our challenges through God’s eyes! We need to stand on His promises! 

“For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37) “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13) “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 3:16)
