Seedtime and Harvest

“It shall not return to me void, but shall do My will, achieving the end for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11

What is God referring to here? His Word. This is one of the most reassuring verses in the Old Testament. God, through the prophet Isaiah tells us His Word is just like the rain that comes down from heaven and waters the earth, making it fertile and fruitful. Without rain, it can be devastating, like what happened in Australia with the bush fires. His Word is like the rain, which comes from His mouth. It shall not return back to God without achieving the purpose for which He sent it.

Jesus is the Word made flesh, and the Father sent Him to renew the face of the earth. Jesus came to make a way where there is no way, for sinful man to be united with a holy God. He came to speak the Word that if we receive it, and plant it in our hearts, we will be fruitful.

Just like any farmer knows, we can only harvest what we plant. We need to plant God’s Word in our hearts, allow the seed to germinate, and the plant to grow into maturity. Then we will reap the fruit of a bountiful harvest. Whatever we are waiting for, physical healing, financial security, authentic conversion of a loved one, reconciliation, we can find God’s promise for it and plant it in our hearts. Then we can wait for God’s Word to work.
