WOYWW: Come to Him!

Here is my desk as I left it last night.
I am working on a painting
for an art fair on the 23rd, Art in the Park,
in Salcedo Village, Makati.
Seems so monochromatic.
Needs some contrast!

God told Jonah a second time:
"Set out for the great city of Nineveh,
and announce to it the message
that I will tell you."
Jonah 3:1
Nineveh was one of the great cities of Assyria,
and Assyria was the one world super power
 at the time of Jonah.
It was a terror of a nation known for its brutality.
No wonder Jonah tried to resist God's command
to go there and prophesy.
At that time Jonah was a well known
prophet, held in high regard.  (2 Kings 14:23)
You'd think that he would willingly do this,
but noooo! He tries to escape to Tarshish
which is in the opposite direction!

There are so many lessons in the Book of Jonah.
Here God shows how He takes care of those
who love Him, like Jonah,
even if he tries to be disobedient.
Another is how He loves those who do not know Him,
like the people of Nineveh.
He gave them a chance to repent
by sending them Jonah the prophet.

 Our Father.
How amazing is it that we can call
the Creator of the Universe,
abba, father, daddy!
It is like a piece of feces calling me mommy!
An absurdity!
Yet that is how Jesus taught the disciples to talk to God.
In Luke 11:1, while Jesus was praying,
one of the disciples asked him,
"Lord, teach us to pray."

Perhaps he saw that there was something different
in how Jesus related to God.
And Jesus taught them The Our Father.
In the Old Testament God is referred to as Father
a total of about 15 times.
In the Gospels, God is called Father 170 times!
When we pray as Jesus taught,
we call God our Father,
because we look upon Him
with childlike trust and dependence.
But He is OUR father,
which means we are united with
ALL His children, we are part of His family!

Even for those who do not know Him
and do evil in His sight-
He always gives a second,
a third, another chance
for them to repent and come to Him!!!

Blessings!

Patsy

  3. I like Jonah's story - it's a very naturally human one, don't you think. I'm glad you're exhibiting at Art in the Park - the more people that meet your art the better.
