WOYWW: Promised Land!

I had to find a way to paint this large canvas on my small space.
So I propped the canvas on my drawer
and used that as an easel!

Work in progress for the painting exhibit in Manila Hotel
at the end of the month.

"The Lord showed Moses the land..." Deuteronomy 34:1
Before Moses died, God showed him the land promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and to their descendants. Moses saw from the Pisgah Peak the whole land extending to the Mediterranean Sea. "I have now allowed you to see it, but you will not enter the land," God said in Dt. 34:4. Then Moses died and was buried in a place no one has found up to now. He was 120 years old, his eyesight was clear and he needed no glasses to see the vastness of the land God showed him. He was 120 years old and he was as strong as ever.  Some bible scholars say that God did not allow Moses to step into the Promised Land as a punishment for not obeying God in Numbers 20:6-13.  To me, death for Moses and other saints is not a punishment but a reward of a life well lived.

We all have a God given purpose on earth, and it it not for us to question God.  Perhaps some of us ask why were we not given this talent or this job or this task. We would have preferred to be the leader not the servant, some would prefer to be the servant not the leader.  Sometimes, like Moses, it's hard to deal with a recalcitrant people, there are so many challenges, so many complaints.  When times are hard, we need to go to God, to see things from His perspective. We need to ask God to show us the Promised land which is the inheritance of every believer, every one who follows the Saviour!

"You must put them in possession of their heritage." Dt. 31:7
When Moses was 120 years old and about to die, the Lord told Moses to call Joshua as He would commission Joshua to bring the people of Israel into the land that He promised to give them. "Be brave and steadfast. Be strong and courageous," Moses told Joshua, "You are the one who will deliver the land as their inheritance."
In some way, we are each a Joshua to our children. There is a great inheritance in store for them. Are our children aware of this? Do they know how to get to the Promised Land? Sometimes as parents, we too need to be strong and steadfast, to have a purpose. I know parents who are intimidated by their children. But if we want the best for our children, we need to lead them in the right direction. I remember when my son Josh was young, and our community had a summer camp. It was the first time Josh would be joining and he did not want to go. He asked, "Don't I have a choice, mom?" It's a question that any self-respecting, thinking kid would ask, right? I answered, "Of course you have a choice. You can either enjoy yourself or not." Joshua went, and joined many camps after that first one. Joshua is now 20 years old. Before he accepted the underway commitment in our community a few months ago, and promised to investigate our way of life, he did not ask if he had a choice any more. I thank God that when we want the best for our children, and "train them up in the way they should go, when they are old, they will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6).

Stormie O'martian has many wonderful prayers for children and one of them is this:

  11. Two things stood out to me in this pictorial devotional. One was when you told your son, "You can choose whether to enjoy yourself or not." Loved that. :)
The other was where you mentioned that Moses got to go to a much better promised land than Canaan. It is all about perspective. The Lord keeps bringing the word perspective before me lately so I have been learning to ask for his perspective, especially when I am upset about something. Most often it is my perspective that is all wrong.
I am also very impressed that you used your desk drawer as an easel. Smart thinking and your painting turned out beautifully too.
    Hugs,
    Teresa
