Love Letters

“Two evils have my people done: they have forsaken me, the source of living waters; They have dug themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, that hold no water.” Jeremiah 2:13

Jeremiah was a prophet of God, known as the “weeping prophet” for his book of Lamentations. He called on the nation of Judah to repent. The people had forsaken God much like many people today. Instead of looking to the Word of God for guidance, for “living water”, they preferred other sources, other idols, other man made distractions. Digging our own cisterns is an abomination to the Lord because, what use is a water reservoir if it does not hold water? God has already provided “living water” for us, but we turn our backs on it!

Even if we were able to collect water from our roofs to pour into our man made cisterns, what kind of water would it be? Certainly impure, dirty, contaminated! We can only be sure of water that comes from the highest source, God our Father, who made us, the stars, constellations and everything majestic on the earth. Why would we want to get our strength, wisdom, guidance, direction, purpose, from anyone or anything else? How much time do we spend on Facebook, Netflix, watching telenovelas, compared to the time we spend praying or reading the Bible? It is so sad that many of us are content with our own idea of God, and we do not want to really know Him, or are too lazy to read His love letters to us, the Bible.
