PPF: Planting Rice Is Never Fun

Join me as I do 31 Days of posts,
writing from the HeART!
You'll find other fascinating posts
on The Nester, all doing a series of 31 Days!!!

When you think of a harvest,
what can you picture in your mind?

When I read from Luke 10 this morning,
"The harvest is abundant
but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for is harvest,"
I thought of a field of grains.

We have a song here in the Philippines,
"Planting rice is never fun,
Bent from morn till the set of sun,
Cannot stand and cannot sit,
Cannot rest for a little bit."

The harvest is plentiful, SOOOO much!
More than enough for everybody!
But it is hard work!

Jesus was talking of a different kind of harvest.
In Matthew 9:36, Jesus saw the crowds
following Him,and he noticed how distressed they were,
 harassed and helpless,
downcast like sheep without a shepherd.
He felt compassion for them,
which meant He suffered with them,
empathized with their situation.

When we see people harassed and helpless,
sad, lonely, in need of a helping hand,
is our heart touched?
Or have we grown calloused
because the need is all around us?

Here in my country the Philippines,
it is easy to be hard hearted.
There are so many people in need of help.
So many disasters.
Earthquakes, typhoons, fires,
deaths, cancer and other life threatening diseases,
people homeless in the streets,
innocent people languishing in jail....
How do you choose who to help?

I can't say it any better than
Mother Teresa of Calcutta:
"If you can't feed a hundred people,
then feed just one."

"Let us not be satisfied with just
giving money.
Money is not enough,
money can be got,
but they need your hearts
to love them.
So spread your love
everywhere you go."

Every week I choose one wonderful visitor

  16. Beautiful! And I agree. We work in S. Africa with orphans. It can get overwhelming if you think about the large number of kids that need help. We just have to do what we can and pray that somehow God multiplies it.
