I love making backgrounds.
Splashing paint, using a spray bottle
to make water splotches,
stamping with all sorts of things like caps,
apple protectors, bubble wrap, etc.
makes me feel like a kid again!
I used this background for my
journal page below.
For my journal this morning I read
Ephesians 4:1-6 which is all about how to
live in UNITY with others.
In my favorite meditation guide,
it reads,
"Unity requires HUMILITY.
Understanding that other people are
just as important and just as beloved as we are is vital.
Our fallen nature likes to think of the world
revolving around us- but it really doesn't"
When I think, "Why me? Why now?"
I have to think "Why not me? Why not now?"
It's really not about me!
But we also have to balance that thinking
with the confidence that
God is able to accomplish far more
than we can ask for or imagine!
(Ephesians 3:20)

Somehow I am having a problem
making the crib beddings recede
so that the mother's dress
comes to the forefront of the painting.
Anybody have a suggestion?

I totally agree with your comments about unity among Christians. This is practically hammered so many times throughout the Bible. What's more important? Small differences in doctrine? Or spreading the good news of Jesus Christ?
ReplyDeleteDo you journal like this daily? Your art is beautiful! What if you made the bedding a pale green? Sort of like your 2 Timothy 1 picture to the right. Or maybe adding a splash of purple to the mother's dress?

ReplyDeleteThis is another great post and I am sure you will sort out the crib problem...I would suggest taking a scan or photo of it and printing out some copies and trying things on them until you find how to fix it... this always works for me... and means I don't muck up the original... always a stress with commissioned work... good luck ...xx

ReplyDeletepopping in from studio JRU, love the verses, and your work. Try adding a shadow of the opposite color to the bedding, first gently it should help the bedding recede.

ReplyDeleteYour work is awesome. The backgrounds and the people are beautiful. I am not the talented painter you are. However, what I see is that the crib blanket needs to be more neutral where it meets the dress. Probably not the whole blanket, and perhaps a deeper shadow to the blanket. Plus by adding a tiny bit of lighter color to the dress where it meets the blanket will make the dress come forward a tiny bit while the blanket will recede.

ReplyDeleteMaybe there should be more of a difference between the color of the bedding and the dress? Paler colors recede, so a light wash of yellow or white might do the trick.

ReplyDeleteLove your art - my take would have been to wash white gesso over the bed covering as well - but after reading Tracey's advice - much better idea to do any "fixing" on copies.

ReplyDeleteI can't help with your painting. But I do think it's beautiful. A mother has the responsibility to raise children to make a difference in the world. It's a joy watching our children take their place in "shaking the world."
