More than a Fisherman

This is what is in my journal today,
a line from the Book of Mark, Ch. 1, verse 17.
"Come after me and I will make you fishers of men."

In another version, the verse reads:
"Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people."

Why did Jesus target Simon and Andrew, James and John?
Was it because they were fishermen?
Maybe because fishermen are used to being patient,
to not catching anything for long stretches of time!

My father wants to catch fish.
He has developed so many methods,
but he hasn't been successful
It's not that he isn't patient.

It's because he doesn't know the fish in the area.
He needs to know what it eats, when it eats.
Eventually he'll be able to catch fish, I'm sure of it.

I believe that when we follow Jesus,
even if we're total dummies about "catching men",
He'll be the one to make us
excellent fishers of men!

Todd Millikan said in his blog,
"Every single child of God is made to have a role
of incredible significance and
influence in others' lives."
