Build Your House on Rock

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24

Yesterday’s earthquake made me think of the insurance on our house and our building in Roces. It also made us discuss the “Big One” over dinner. A study claimed that about 6,000 people could die if a magnitude 7.2 quake emanated from the West Valley Fault. Even the Phivolcs Director urged the public to be ready for a strong quake after a powerful earthquake struck Surigao del Sur on Saturday night.

Just as we need to prepare for disasters by listening to the authorities and heeding the signs of the times, we also need to listen to God’s Word and obey Him. Just as the foundation of our house is important, we also need to build our lives on the foundation of God’s Word. When trials come as they always will, we know we can depend on our God and trust in Him.

The only sure way to be a “wise man” is to read God’s Word, embed it in our heart, and act on it. That way we will be building our life on eternal values and a foundation that cannot be shaken. Just like King David we may call out to God, “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”  (Psalm 61:2)

  1. This is so true. We have to be doers, not just hearers!
