Proclaim Liberty to the Captives!

In the Gospel reading for today, Luke 4:16-30,
Jesus said, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because He has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord."

It was one of Jesus' primary missions here on earth
to set prisoners free.

There are many kinds of prisoners.
We can make our own prisons by not forgiving,
by being proud, envious, for hating and so forth.
But the most concrete of all prisons is the jail cell.

What if we could be part of Jesus' mission?
What if we could be His hands, His feet,
His ears, His heart?
Wouldn't that be wonderful?
He gave us many wonderful talents and gifts,
resources, time, a capacity to love.

Let us find a way to use these gifts and resources
to set captives free!
It may be a neighbor who is hurting,
in need of just a listening ear!
A friend who needs a visit,
an officemate who needs prayer,
a husband who needs forgiveness
a child who needs understanding!

I thought of a way to be part of freeing prisoners
from behind their real jail cells.

I recently attended a Paralegal Service Ministry seminar,
facilitated by a former inmate of QC Jail-

Dr. Raymund Narag, after being
accused of a murder he did not commit,
spent 6 years, nine months and 4 days in QC Jail.
He was released on a not guilty charge,
and now has a PHD in Criminal Justice.

What if we could finance someone
to do the paralegal work for us?
I am looking for 15 generous people
who want to be part of Jesus' mission
to free the captives.
The cost? One thousand pesos a month (25 dollars)
To pay Boy Tambuli to do the hard work for us.

Boy Tambuli was an inmate in QC Jail for
11 years, also for a murder he did not commit.
Because of God's mercy, he turned his life to God,
and did not become embittered.
He became a worship leader, and after he was freed
(because of someone who found time
to do some paralegal paperwork),
now continues to visit the jail
to encourage and give hope to the inmates.
He can do the paralegal work for us!

Like Boy Tambuli and Raymund Narag,
there are many innocent people
languishing in jail.
For P1,000 a month, we can help them!

Every week I choose one wonderful visitor
who leaves a comment

I know it takes so much time and effort
to leave a comment
and I appreciate it soooo much!

  1. Your art work and bible quotes are absolutely beautiful as always. Such a good cause too - I used to volunteer for the Samaritans and they worked in the prisons a lot. Very tough but rewarding work.

Thanks so much for linking up!
