Paint Party Friday: My Desert Place

"Jesus would withdraw to
deserted places to pray." Luke 5:16
Every morning I withdraw to my little room
filled with my books, and papers, my pens
and paints and brushes.
I read scriptures, choose a verse,
and paint it.
This is my quiet time.
No one is awake at 3 in the morning
when I start to do this.

If Jesus needed to escape from the crowds,
to get away from all the people
wanting to get close and touch Him,
desiring healing, eager to hear Him speak,
how much more do we need to do this?

If we want to get more done,
if we are to find meaning and purpose
for our every day tasks,
if we need peace instead of stress and anxiety,
then we need to decide to
withdraw for a while, every day.
To meet God, the source of all
we want for ourselves.
To find what truly matters.
To be anchored.
To become our best self.

"Whoever loves God must also love his brother."
1 John 4:21
Our journey to our real home hinges on two things-
love of God and love of our brothers and sisters.
Nobody I know has ever seen God,
but He says what we do to the least of our brothers,
we do for Him, to Him.
If we feed a street child,
visit a prisoner, encourage a widow,
give clothes to an orphan, talk to a beggar
and give him dignity.....we are loving God!

If I have not love for others,
I am nothing, an empty vessel.
To become my best self,
to be able to love the way Jesus loved,
I need to find my desert place
and be with the One
who can teach me.

  2. Hello Patsy,
I'm visiting PPF for the first time today...it's been brilliant and so inspiring.
A very thoughtful post. Maybe to wake at 3am to paint might solve my problem of not finding enough time during the day. I'll have to give it a go.

Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for sharing ;D

I love this in more ways than I can explain. I think you put into words, too - the way your art allows you to internalize His word, to study it and know it more deeply. My writing is like that. It's a study, a time with God. Thank you friend - for sharing your heart like you do!
