"Come by yourselves to an out-of-the-way place and rest a while."
Mark 6:31
How wonderful is Jesus that He even thinks of this? That we do need to rest, to cease work to find refreshment, relaxation and recover strength. Just thinking about being at leisure and taking it easy after a busy week, after all the meetings, and late nights, gives us pause. We need to recharge our batteries. That's why God gave us His example of resting on the 7th day (Genesis 2:2).
Indeed, we all long for different things. My heart yearns for something completely different than yours. It's ironic that one woman would give her soul for love and companionship and another wishes for nothing but to be left alone. One man works day and night to get ahead and another slaves to feed lepers.
Ultimately, the best way to rest is in Him, who invented rest. Saint Augustine who sought restlessly after many worldly things until He found God, concluded, "Our hearts are restless until they find rest in Thee."
May I rest in Thee O Lord, keeper of my heart and soul.
