Overwhelmed

Overwhelmed with all these heartbreaking images.
Almost 2/3 of my country, the Philippines,
was affected by Typhoon Haiyan,
which combined the effects of an EF 4 tornado
and a tsunami that reached up to the
2nd level of buildings.

When we are inundated with trials,
hardships and suffering,
we can ask God to
"Increase our faith," Luke 17:5.

The disciples did it, even though
they were with Jesus when he calmed the storm,
made the blind see and the lame walk.

Ever wonder where the word "macabre" comes from?
Probably from the 7 Maccabean martyrs.
7 brothers during the reign of the beast,
Antiochus Epiphanes, refused to eat pork
because it was against their faith.
They were tortured, their tongues, hands,
feet scalp cut off, and then their maimed bodies,
put in a frying pan and fried.
"It is for His laws we are dying"

It is easy to be a Christian today,
compared to how life threatening it was
 many times in history.
But we still have choices to make.
Do we live our life in the light of the world to come?
Do we live as if all we have is from God
and it can all be taken away,
just as many in Leyte, Samar, Palawan
have lost their homes, livelihood, families?

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep
to gain what he can never lose."
Jim Elliot

I don't want to be a fool and not give
to those who need it most. Right now.

We are God's building.
We are all brothers and sisters.
Any little bit helps.

  23. Hello Patsy. What scenes of devastation we have been seeing from your country. The tragedies of families torn apart by the storm. May Father God bring you comfort as you look to Him. We have been praying for your land this evening at our small midweek group. For those who died knowing Jesus, yes indeed, their hope is now realised. For those left behind - may they know the God of Comfort. God bless you as you minister to, and help, those suffering.
