Choose this Day

“Herod ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he ascertained from the magi.” Matthew 2:16

What is it in a man like Herod or the Egyptian Pharaoh in Moses’ time, that makes him believe he can just discount lives and have them murdered? But are there not today many little Herods and Pharaohs who vote to legalize abortion and believe they are righteous for doing so?

And then there are men who think little of murdering a man sleeping beside his wife and children on Christmas day. 32 year old Ryan Cuarteros was shot dead by two men who forced their way into his home. Some people will ask, is God asleep that He would allow such atrocities? Is He, when He has given each of us the greatest gift of life and of choosing what to do with that life?

“Choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15) Today we may despair at the pervasive evil done by people in government, in media, people with political agendas in schools, even in the Church, or we may be the change, be the difference in the world. There are so many places that need our light to shine to dispel the darkness. Let us choose every day to serve the Lord and never give up.
