"Not on bread alone is man to live but on every utterance that comes from the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4
This was Jesus' answer to the devil's taunts in the desert. This should be ours as well when we are tempted to disobey God. Imagine if Adam and Eve resisted the snake in the garden by just repeating what God said to them. Instead of telling the snake what God said, Eve embellished it, by pronouncing, "We must not eat it or even TOUCH it, or we will die."
Many of us do not really know what is in the Bible because we do not read it and study it. For instance, we have heard and read many times that money is the root of all evil. What the Bible says in 1 Timothy 6:10 is that the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil. If only we study His Word, we will realize that all God wants is for us to love Him, to have an intimate relationship with Him, so He can teach us His ways and we will live a full life.
We will also realize that all the ancient enemy wants is for us to rebel against God so we come under his influence and he can destroy us. He entices us with different kinds of low hanging fruit - sex without responsibility or commitment is so attractive the way it is presented in the movies, TV or in novels. If you get pregnant, so what? There's the easy way out with abortion. Drugs? Kill the pusher, never mind if young kids get in the way of gunfire. Life is cheap and drug pushers are not part of humanity anyway. You want to get ahead, never mind if your family is hurting and never sees you. They will have all the material possessions they need anyway. Low grades? Just copy. The end justifies the means. There is so much that destroys life that is available to us!
Lord, I want to live by Your Word. Help me not to be deceived. May I know what is best for me by reading and understanding Your instructions, that You may bless me as You have promised.
Inspiring. I like how you put the gospel so simply - "all God wants is for us to love Him, to have an intimate relationship with Him, so He can teach us His ways and we will live a full life."
