A Living Faith

“I have seen the Lord.” John 20:18

Mary Magdalene was so blessed that she saw Jesus, walked with Him, and listened to His stories and teachings. She could be brave, faithful and steadfast because she knew the Lord. While most of the disciples were hiding in fear, she was with Jesus’ mother at the foot of the cross. She was the “apostle to the apostles”, bearing the amazing news that Jesus was alive!

We too can be like Mary Magdalene if we know Jesus personally. Many know the story of Corrie ten Boom because she wrote a best seller about helping the Jews during the holocaust, and her imprisonment in Scheveningen and Ravensbrück. But there were hundreds of Christian Dutch people who helped hide the Jews during that time. They would transport them to far away farms, steal ration cards for them so they could eat, and provide fake ID cards. One of those Dutch resistance workers was Diet Eman who worked tirelessly to save many Jews from the persecution of those long horrific years. In 1998 Diet was honored with the Righteous Among the Nations medal from Israel’s Yad Vashem for her help to Jewish people during the war. It was her living faith in God that allowed her to bravely fight against the Nazi’s cruelty to the Jews.

Today, there are many things that are not right in our society and in the world. We have to pray to have that living faith in God, a close relationship with Jesus, so that when we need it, we will find that we have courage, strength and a stout heart to do what we have to on the side of truth, justice and righteousness.
