Count Your Blessings

“Would that we had meat for food! We remember the fish we used to eat without cost in Egypt, and the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. But now we are famished; we see nothing before us but this manna.”

Numbers 11:4-6

The people of Israel were complaining that they did not have meat to eat in the desert. All they had was manna which God provided everyday. They had forgotten that most of them did very hard work in Egypt. We too are prone to complaining and forget the many blessings God has given us.

The oldest recorded set of multiple complaints was on a cuneiform tablet which dates back to about 1750 BCE. It was found in Ur, the city Abraham came from, now in modern day Iraq. People have been complaining for thousands and thousands of years! It must weary God, the same way the unending complaints of the Israelites wearied God and Moses!

Joyce Meyer said, “Don’t complain. The Israelites wasted forty years complaining and murmuring in the wilderness, when they could have just obeyed God and entered into their Promised Land!”
