“O LORD, my God, in You I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and rescue me, Lest I become like the lion's prey, to be torn to pieces, with no one to rescue me.” Psalm 7:2-3
Young David was not afraid of lions. When King Saul told David he could not fight Goliath on account of his youth, David proclaimed, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:34-37)
David had confidence that God would save him from the lion and any enemy. What’s more, when the lion came to attack David’s sheep, he did not see the lion as something to fear, but as a gift from God, an opportunity, a blessing in disguise. Without the lions and the bears, David would not have the experience to fight Goliath, which eventually led him to the throne.
If we have steadfast faith, we too will see challenges, trials, dangers and suffering as training from God for blessings and opportunities He has in store for us. Thank You Father! Help us to have the confidence of David, and the eyes to see our challenges as blessings and opportunities!
