Only One Thing

Join me as I do 31 Days of posts,
writing from the HeART!
You'll find other fascinating posts
on The Nester, all doing a series of 31 Days!!!

One of my favorite stories in the Bible
Here we see Martha doing many things while
Mary, her sister, was listening to Jesus.
When Martha asks Jesus to tell Mary
to help her, Jesus replies,
“Martha, Martha, you are worried
and upset about many things, but few things are needed—
or indeed only one.
Mary has chosen what is better,
and it will not be taken away from her.”

I find it very strange that Martha is not happy
that Mary is taking care of the guest
while she prepares what to serve Him!
Unless perhaps Jesus has been there so often,
being a good friend of Lazarus,
that she takes Him for granted!
Don't we do this too?
Jesus is always with us, He never leaves us.
Do we make sure to carve out some
special time with Him like Mary?
And not just a harried "thank you"
or "please..." during stolen moments between
all we have to do?
"There is need of only one thing...."
Jesus said.
Stormie Omartian said, "If we don't deliberately
build our lives around these "garden walks"
with the Lord, the world will
rapidly and relentlessly
fill our hours with other commitments."

Lord, I'm sorry for treating you so casually!

Every week I choose one wonderful visitor
who leaves a comment
to receive an ATC from me.
I know it takes so much time and effort
to leave a comment
and I appreciate it soooo much!

This week,
Random.org chose
 #19, Marilyn Lamoreux,
who wrote "Pick me! Pick me!"
in her comment!

Loved this reminder that we need worship at his feet more and worry about busyness less. came over from the Sacro Speco link up.

  5. Oh, how often I push aside the time to walk with Him in the garden. But I'm one of those people who feel more comfortable serving someone at my house than sitting with them and sharing conversation. Would love to know which of Stormie O'Martian's book that quote was in.
    Pick me, pick me:)

  6. I love your insight! I love the story of Mary and Martha, too. One of my favorites, in fact. I always think of this story and remember to be like Mary & pick the better thing!

    Gorgeous artwork, as always!

  7. Why is it we can come away from being Martha & can be discontent...but we never stand after those quiet, Mary moments and are disappointed, angry, or upset that we spent time with God. Those quiet moments are always much more worth it! UNITED in Him, Jen
