Saint Barnabas

June 11 is the Feast Day of St. Barnabas.
He was one of the first teachers in Antioch.
Originally named Joseph,
he was given the new name
of Barnabas, when he sold his land in Cyprus
to give to the apostles in Jerusalem.
There was so much to be done in Antioch,
that he asked Paul to labor with him.
They preached and taught there for a whole year
before returning to Jerusalem.
Together they made many converts
of Gentiles in many parts of Asia Minor
among many other places.

St. Luke, in the Book of Acts,
speaks of him, as a good man,
full of the Holy Spirit and of faith.

In Mark 14:22, Jesus says,
"Take it, this is my body."

We are all part of the Body of Christ.
It is because of fervent and industrious preachers
like Saint Barnabas that the Good News was spread.
We too are imbued with the same Spirit
that filled Saint Barnabas.
May we learn, like him, to seize the opportunities
we have to encourage and spread the Word of God!

I love blog parties!
Won't you join us?

  4. Thank you for sharing St. Barnabas. I believe as a part time educator, I should really look upon him too.

  5. We are studying the book of James in my Sunday school class. I didn't realize how much he did with these same men to further the Kingdom of God after Jesus' descent..Thanks for sharing this. www.heartreflected.com
