In My Heart

“Whoever does the will of my Heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Matthew 12:50

In Matthew 28:20, Jesus said, “Behold, I am with you always, even to the consummation of the age.” No one can promise that, not our mother, father, brother or sister. No matter how close we are to our family, one day, one by one, they will leave us here on earth. But Jesus, He will always walk with us, and talk with us if we want to listen. He can even live within our hearts. A man said to a preacher, “I see Jesus in your eyes!” The preacher was filled with awe that someone said that to him, and he pondered it for some time. Then he figured, “If Jesus is in my heart, maybe sometimes he peeps through my eyes!”

We need to be like Mary of Bethany (Luke 10) who sat at Jesus’ feet, rapt at all He had to say. But to be Jesus’ sister, Mary would have had to obey what He had told her. Imagine if I gave instructions to my staff about what they were to do while I went away on a trip, and when I came back I found out that every day, they had a meeting. They went through all my instructions, underlined and discussed it, but did not follow through! It would be like us reading the Bible every day, underlining it, and forgetting about it when we went about our day!

Lord Jesus, help me to do Your will, to be obedient, and filled with Your Spirit.
